I think it is important to know about people and their interests outside of their career.
One of my key interests outside of Data is Powerlifting. It gives me a chance to move my body and keeps me feeling fitter and healthier both physically and mentally, the psychological benefits of powerlifting help me maintain a good diet and perform at my best on a daily basis, it brings structure to my life and helps me stay organised as well as stress-free. Everyone has their definition of happiness in something that they do and Powerlifting is that for me.
Powerlifting consists of the 3 main compound lifts that can be carried out with a barbell:
Squat
Bench
Deadlift
My goal is to compete nationally in the <83kg category, to which my first ever competition will be on the 3rd September 2023, after putting off competing for so long.
My interesting extends to the scientifics and the correct form for each of the lifts, hopefully being able to share my knowledge with others one day.
Combining my 2 interests, I have created a use case for an analytics platform against powerlifting data.
Opensource powerlifting competitor data around the world can be found at the following link:
https://openpowerlifting.gitlab.io/opl-csv/bulk-csv.html
This includes almost 3 million records of data, with the correct platform could enable enriched analytics.
My aim is to ingest the data via Azure - Databricks using Python & SQL scripting.
Analytics will then be performed using PowerBI to gain insights into Powerlifting competitors.
